Oregon moved up a spot to No. 10 in the AP Top 25 college football poll, back in the Top 10 after a wild 44-41 double-overtime victory Saturday night over Arizona and previous No. 10 LSU’s loss at Mississippi.

Mississippi, California and North Carolina, teams that started the season with lofty expectations before stumbling, surged back into The Associated Press rankings.

There was little change, however, at the top Sunday after a weekend when most of the highly ranked teams had easy victories or time off.

No. 1 Florida was followed by fellow unbeatens Alabama, Texas, Texas Christian, Cincinnati and Boise State. Also holding their places were No. 7 Georgia Tech, No. 8 Pittsburgh and No. 9 Ohio State. The Gators received 36 first-place votes, Alabama had 13 and Texas 11.

Oregon moved up a spot after LSU slipped seven places to No. 17 following a 25-23 loss at Ole Miss.

Oregon State moved up four spots to No. 16.

BCS at-large bids up for grabs in final weeks — Iowa and Penn State ended their seasons eligible for an at-large BCS bid, and Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech are also in position to be eligible for invites to the four big-money bowl games even though they have no shot to win their conferences.

The top seven teams in the Bowl Championship Series standings were unchanged from last week, with Florida, Alabama and Texas on top.

Weis can’t defend himself — Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis said he would have a hard time arguing if the school decides to fire him for his 6-5 record, saying it isn’t good enough. He made the comment after being asked about his quote when he was hired five years ago when he said 6-5 wasn’t good enough. That was Notre Dame’s record when Tyrone Willingham was fired.

Princeton fires coach — Roger Hughes has been fired as the football coach at Princeton after 10 seasons. Hughes went 47-52 at Princeton’s head coach, winning the 2006 Ivy League title and posting three winning seasons. The Tigers finished the 2009 season 4-6.

Youngstown State coach resigns — Youngstown State football coach Jon Heacock said he is stepping down after nine seasons that included one trip to the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals.
