55 percent of Washington employers offer medical

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Fewer employers in Washington are offering medical insurance coverage to workers.

The state Employment Security Department reports the number was 55 percent in 2009, a 2 point drop from the year before.

A department survey of 10,000 business released Monday also showed that monthly premiums increased $8 to $366 per month. The amount covered by employers dropped to 83 percent, compared to 86 percent the previous year.

The number of business offering some type of retirement plan increased from 38 percent to 45 percent. And the number offering paid vacations increased from 63 percent to 65 percent.
