Reyna hired as USSF youth technical director

CHICAGO (AP) — Former national team captain Claudio Reyna has been hired as the U.S. Soccer Federation’s youth technical director and will be introduced Wednesday.

His appointment was announced Tuesday by the USSF.

The former midfielder had eight goals in 112 international appearances from 1994-2006 and played at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cups.

Winner of the 1993 Hermann Trophy at Virginia, Reyna retired as a player two years ago following stints with Bayer Leverkusen (1994-97), Wolfsburg (1997-99), Glasgow Rangers (1999-01), Sunderland (2001-03), Manchester City (2003-07) and the New York Red Bulls (2007-08).
