Top-seeded Azarenka advances in Marbella

MARBELLA, Spain (AP) — Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Russia beat Yvonne Meusburger of Austria 6-3, 6-0 Tuesday to reach the second round of the Andalucia Open.

Azarenka broke Meusburger six times on the outdoor clay.

Sixth-seeded Maria Kirilenko lost to Sorana Cirstea of Romania 4-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4. Kirilenko was the only seeded player to lose.

Fifth-seeded Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland. Fellow Spaniard and eighth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro beat Roberta Vinci 6-4, 6-0.

Seventh-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues beat Arantxa Parra Santonja 6-1, 6-4 in an all-Spanish matchup. Italians Alberta Brianti and Sara Errani and qualifier Simona Halep of Romania were other first-round winners.
