Weather Eye: Cold, wintery weather blowing back into region

Today’s weather will be a repeat of what we saw earlier in the week, with cold, blustery winds, rain and some good snows in the Cascades — much more winterlike as highs struggle to reach 50 degrees.

Friday morning will be quite chilly, with lingering showers dropping snow levels down to 1,000 feet or lower before somewhat warmer air arrives later in the day.

Forecasters were thinking the weekend would deliver some respite from the winter blues, but it now appears that Sunday might be damp. Saturday will be an in-between day with mostly fair weather, hopefully.

Here are the rainfall reports from your friends and neighbors around the region for March. Gary Collins, Brush Prairie, 5.13 inches; Murphy Dennis, near Clark County Rifles, 7.93 inches; Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 10.28 inches; Tyler Mode, Minnehaha, 3.04 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 3.81 inches; Larry Lebsack, Northeast Hazel Dell, 4.49 inches; Irv St. Germain, Southwest Prune Hill, 4.70 inches; Bob Starr, Cougar, 14.90 inches; Pete Conrad, Battle Ground, 4.88 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 3.65 inches; Dan Hein, Camas,4.69 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 4.65 inches; Phil Delany, above Dole Valley, 11.50 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 6.97 inches; Phil Harris, Washougal, 5.20 inches; Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 6.97 inches; Nancy Ellifrit, Mt. Vista, 4.82 inches; Bud Maddux, Home Valley, 8.27 inches; and Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 5.40 inches.

Weather observer Murphy Dennis writes: “I even watched a robin dip his foot in the birdbath to check the temperature before he jumped in.” You bet it has been quite chilly.

Don’t be surprised to see something such as hail or wet snow fall from the sky depending on your location.
