KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — UEFA president Michel Platini has given Ukraine a two-month deadline to catch up with its 2012 European Championship preparation schedule.

“Ukraine has two months to show what it can do. We cannot waste time any more,” Platini said after his meeting with Ukraine president Viktor Yanukovych at the end of a two-day visit to four of the country’s host cities.

Platini said Thursday he believed in Ukraine but needed guarantees from the authorities to move forward.

Platini raised doubts last Monday whether Ukraine would be ready to co-host the tournament with Poland, complaining that work on the Lviv stadium had stopped while renovation work on Kiev’s Olympic stadium is behind schedule.
