The number of Small Business Administration loans issued in Oregon and Southwest Washington increased 32 percent over the past six months, according to the SBA.

The federal agency issued 494 loans worth $123 million in the two quarters ending March 31, up from 375 loans worth $83 million in the previous six months. Some 61 of those loans totaling $15.4 million went to Southwest Washington, with 49 loans worth $12.5 million made in Clark County, said Dennis Lloyd, director of lender relations for the SBA in Portland.

Several extensions of the SBA’s federal stimulus program, made in December, February and March, have helped keep demand for SBA loans high, Lloyd said. The most recent infusion of $40 million is set to expire at the end of April.
