SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Police say they used a stun gun to subdue a 40-year-old armed man holed up in a Salem-area apartment complex Saturday.

The Oregonian reports the incident ended after a five-hour standoff that included a SWAT team surrounding an apartment complex.

Police were first called to the scene after neighbors reported Erik C. Torfin was walking down a nearby streets shooting a gun into the air, at the ground and at a bus shelter. Nobody was injured, but a bullet did hit a stop sign.

Police evacuated several buildings in the complex and restricted access.

Torfin was arrested after coming out of his apartment complex, but refusing to comply with verbal instructions. He suffered a head injury after hitting the pavement in response to the stun gun.

He was arrested on suspicion of unlawful use of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and other crimes.
