SANDY, Ore. (AP) — The latest in a series of mysterious tree cuttings near a stretch of U.S. 26 southeast of Portland is the first to involve injuries.

Molly Rose Oregan was eastbound after her 20th birthday celebration late Sunday when she collided with a felled tree about 18 inches in diameter. Oregon State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings says her car was totaled; she suffered minor injuries.

Since Feb. 1, about 20 trees have been felled onto roadways, power lines or driveways in the rural area east of Sandy.

Authorities say they have no suspects.

But Hastings says, in his words, “We’ve got to stop this.”

The tree cuttings began with a report of a tree leaning against power lines on a street off U.S. 26. Since then, fallen trees have caused two accidents on the highway.
