TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — A Tacoma middle school was locked down for about an hour Monday as police responded to a report of a student with a handgun.

Tacoma police spokesman Mark Fulghum says police arrested a 14-year-old eighth grader and recovered a handgun from a backpack at Giaudrone Middle School.

No one was hurt.

Tacoma schools spokesman Dan Voelpel says the student told police he didn’t know how the gun got into his backpack. School officials say the boy did not make any threats.
