SEATTLE (AP) — The Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle euthanized a 19-year-old bull elk Tuesday because of limited mobility and poor eyesight due to its age.

The elk named Woody arrived at the zoo in 1991 as a calf. In the wild, male elks have a life expectancy of about 16 years.

Woody’s skeleton will be preserved at The Burke Museum for research and education.

The zoo is looking to replace Woody in the Northern Trail exhibit where four female elk remain.
