Prep roundup: Faulkner lifts Camas over River

Jeremy Faulkner’s bat was nearly unstoppable Thursday, and the Camas Papermakers are now alone in first place in the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League baseball standings.

Faulkner had three hits, including a home run, and drove in five runs as Camas topped Columbia River 10-7 to take a game lead atop the standings. The two teams play again today. (Camas will be the designated home team, but the game will be played Columbia River.)

Kurt Yinger pitched into the seventh inning for the Papermakers to get the win. Zach Carter got the final out for the save.

Camas led 8-0 and 10-2 before Columbia River got it close toward the end of the game.

Trevor Cass and Christian Bannister each hit home runs for the Chieftains.

Today’s game will be the final matchup between the two powers this regular season. There will be six league games to be played after today’s contest.

Union 14, Fort Vancouver 7 — Caleb Whalen hit a two-run home run, a two-run triple, and a run-scoring single as the Titans doubled up the Trappers.

Colton Krueger, Leko Galusha, Kenan Stolz, and Kyle Hutchinson each had two hits for the Titans.

Brandon Kent struck out six and picked up the win.

Prairie 11, Hudson’s Bay 3 — The Falcons used a seven-run fifth inning to break open a close game.

Jake Rabitoy, Tyler Vea, and Andrew Schenk each had three hits for Prairie, combining for five extra-base hits and driving in five runs.

Schenk also pitched six innings for the win.
