APRIL 9, 2010 — Last year was big for former Skyview High School student Drake Kemper. The 18-year-old actor, who now spends most of his time in Toluca Lake, Calif., but still returns to Felida several times a year, made his network television debut and filmed a role in a movie starring Maria Bello and Michael Sheen. And 2010 is looking promising as well.

Kemper filmed the role of Alex for the new Nickelodeon show “Victorious,” which premiered March 27 and returns April 11. He’ll appear on the eighth episode as one of two high school seniors behind http://www.TheSlap.com, a gossip Web site covering the fictitious Hollywood Arts school.

TheSlap.com really does exist as a promotional tool for the show. Though Kemper doesn’t run the site in real life, he is featured in an online video clip called “What is TheSlap.com?”

Kemper had actually auditioned for a main role on the show. Though he didn’t get the gig, he’s excited to be part of “Victorious.”

“It’s a great cast, great set, great people,” he said.

Kemper also is making time to give back. On April 25, he’ll emcee the Kids 4 Kids 5k Run/Walk to benefit the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. It’s the second year he’s hosted the event, and his third year being involved.

Children’s cancer is a personal cause for Kemper. He’s lost four family friends under the age of 20 to the disease.

“It just kind of sunk in, and I thought we need to change this,” he said. “I need to get personally involved. We need to find a cure.”
