A 13-year-old Hosanna Christian School student is suspected of reckless endangerment and was expelled for allegedly stabbing a classmate in the eye last week with the broken-off handle of a plastic spoon.

The victim, 14, was transported after the Wednesday incident to Southwest Washington Medical Center, where he had surgery on his left eye, according to a police report.

Police did not identify the individuals involved in the incident because they are juveniles.

According to differing accounts, the victim and suspect had been throwing the spoon back and forth when the victim was hit or the suspect intentionally stabbed the victim.

Medical personnel told the victim and his family that the injury was the likely result of “an act of violence,” according to the report.

The victim told police he has had “numerous problems” with the suspect over the past two years.

The victim told police that the suspect had scratched his arm a day earlier for an unknown reason.

A female classmate who witnessed the incident told police she did not believe the suspect meant to cause harm. She initially told police the two boys were throwing the spoon back and forth, but later told police that the suspect may have had his hand on the spoon when it connected with the victim’s eye.

During an interview at his grandparent’s house, the suspect told police, “I consider everyone at school my friend and I guess I get rough with them sometimes.”

The report has been forward to juvenile prosecutors for review.

Hosanna Christian School is a private school housed by Vancouver First Evangelical Church, 4120 NE St Johns Rd.

The school offers a “Bible based curriculum” and “affordable tuition,” according to its website.
