Nearly two years ago, budget cuts felled organized neighborhood associations chipper day, which allowed residents a way to dispose of fallen branches, limbs, trunks and other woody debris that litter the springtime landscape, but longtime Northeast Hazel Dell neighborhood leader Bud Van Cleve has revived the program.

Van Cleve negotiated a deal with Frontier Landscaping and Clark County to have a chipper available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 1 at the former county poor farm, 1919 N.E. 78th St.

The county has “agreed to let us use that site for chipping and to dump the chips,” he said. “They need chips on the farm.”

The service is free, but donations will be accepted.

Grass, leaves, vines, stumps, dirt or pine needles will not be accepted.

Woody debris from trees and shrubs must go straight from a vehicle to the chipper. Employees of Frontier Landscaping, volunteers from the neighborhood and officers from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to help, Van Cleve said.
