BELLINGHAM, Wash. (AP) — An 18-year-old man is going to prison on a four-and-half-year sentence after pleading guilty to fatally hitting a pedestrian in Bellingham on Jan. 1 and taking off.
Sean F. Crissy pleaded guilty Monday to charges of vehicular homicide and hit-and-run fatality.
Crissy was driving a van when he struck 54-year-old Mark S. Christian from behind as he was out for an evening walk.
Whatcom County Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel determined that Christian died of blood loss from head injuries but couldn’t determine if Christian would have survived if Crissy had called 911 instead of fleeing.
The Bellingham Herald reports Crissy told police he had been drinking alcohol, was “tripping on mushrooms” and was sending a text message at the time.
