Firefighters with Fire District 6 found flames shooting through the roof of a home at 1008 N.W. 87th St. in Hazel Dell on Tuesday evening, but they managed to hold damage to a bathroom — and the attic and roof above it.

Firefighters were called at 7:04 p.m. and arrived in four minutes, said spokeswoman Dawn Johnson. Two adult residents had been home when the fire broke out and called 911, she said.

They exited the house unharmed, but their orange cat was missing, Johnson said.

A large number of firefighters, assisted by the Vancouver Fire Department, quickly stopped the flames and saved the rest of the home.

Crews with four fire engines, a ladder truck and a smaller engine worked at the scene.

Damage was estimated at $10,000 to $12,000, Johnson said.

A Clark County deputy fire marshal determined that an electrical problem with a ceiling fan in the bathroom caused the fire, Johnson said.

Red Cross volunteers came to the scene to help the residents, as the house was not habitable, Johnson said.
