Run, fitness fair slated May 1

STEVENSON — A 9.3-mile run-walk, plus a fitness fair are scheduled May 1 at the Skamania County Fairgrounds.

The fourth annual Carson to Stevenson Ridge Trail Run will begin at 8 a.m. for walkers and 8:30 a.m. for runners at Wind River Middle School, 441 Hot Springs Ave., Carson. It finishes at the fairgrounds.

Shuttles will be available, put carpooling is encouraged. The entry fee is $20 including a T-shirt, $10 without the shirt and $8 for Columbia Gorge Running Club members.

A fitness fair is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the exhibit hall at the fairgrounds. Information on recreation classes plus fitness products and services will be available. Fitness specialists will be on hand.

Boating safety classes to start

PORTLAND — The Fort Vancouver Power Squadron will offer boater-education classes in May and June.

Ninety-minute seminars at West Marine, 1176 N. Hayden Meadows Drive, will begin at 6:45 p.m. The seminars include anchoring and trailering on May 5, nautical charts and boat handling on May 12, and global positioning systems and sail trim on May 19. Those seminars cost $35 per individual or $40 per couple.

A day-long class entitled “Navigating the Northwest’’ will begin at 8 a.m. May 15 at Columbia Crossings Clubhouse, 12050 N. Jantzen Drive. The course will cost $60 per person or $100 a couple. Lunch is included.

A boating safety course will be offered at 7 p.m. Mondays in June at the Sea Scout Base, 7005 N.E. Marine Drive. The class will cost $30 for individuals and $35 for couples.

Klineline to be closed two days

Klineline Pond will be closed April 30 and May 1 to allow for a youth-only fishing event.

The second annual Hooked on Scouting event by the Boy Scouts of America is scheduled May 1. A portion of the pond at Salmon Creek Park will be netted off and trout planted for the event.
