TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved to bolster a sagging defense, selecting Oklahoma’s Gerald McCoy with the third overall pick in the NFL draft.
The 6-foot-4, 295-pound McCoy wept after his selection Thursday night.
He is the first defensive tackle picked in the first round by the Bucs since Anthony McFarland in 1999 and will be expected to have an impact right away on a defense that was last in the NFL against the run last season.
