Lady Shakespeare wins Grade III Bewitch Stakes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Lady Shakespeare took the lead inside the eighth pole on the way to a 212-length victory Thursday in Keeneland’s $150,000 Grade III Bewitch Stakes.

Lady Shakespeare, ridden by John Velazquez, was the 9-5 favorite in the field of seven fillies and mares, 4 and older.

She covered the 112 miles on the turf in 2:31.42 and paid $5.60, $3.20 and $2.80. Changing Skies finished second and returned $4 and $2.80, while Sweet and Flawless was two lengths back and paid $6.20.

Lady Shakespeare, a 4-year-old daughter of Theatrical, earned $90,000 for the win, pushing her career total to $405,608 for her sixth win in 11 starts.
