SEATTLE (AP) — Striking garbage haulers in King and Snohomish County say they will return to work at midnight to prevent a “public health crisis.” But they will be working without a contract.
Teamsters Local 174 said in a statement Thursday afternoon they expect 700 workers to get back to the job and catch up on trash that has not been picked up since Wednesday, when workers went on strike.
The trash haulers say they are going back to work at the urging of the Seattle mayor and the King County executive.
They hope the move will also motivate Waste Management to get back to the bargaining table. Their contract expired on April 1. The company had said it would bring in replacement workers to pick up trash during the strike.
