A Vancouver woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment for slamming into five cars stopped on Northeast Padden Parkway near Ward Road, east of Orchards, on Wednesday.

Monica White, 25, was released into her husband’s custody with a summons to appear in court, Washington State Patrol Trooper Steve Schatzel said.

She was transported Wednesday to Southwest Washington Medical Center for precautionary reasons. Her infant daughter was not injured in the incident, which blocked the eastbound lane of Padden Parkway until about 6:45 p.m.

Rescuers and police were called to the eastbound lane between Northeast 152nd Avenue and Ward about 5:30 p.m., said Capt. Kevin Murray of the Vancouver Fire Department.

White’s Jetta had caught fire after the collision. All of the occupants of the tangled vehicles had exited before firefighters arrived and stopped the blaze.

The cars were “all sandwiched together,” Murray said.

Rear-end collisions, often caused by drivers who don’t pay attention, drive too fast and follow other cars too closely, happen frequently in Clark County, officials said.

Four of the six cars in the collision were totaled. The other two had minor damage and were driven from the scene.
