A Vancouver woman was one of two pedestrians killed in a downtown Portland accident involving a Tri-Met bus.

Danielle Sale, 22, was killed just before midnight Saturday while she and a group of other people were crossing Northwest Broadway westbound at Northwest Glisan Street, according to Portland police. A bus turning from westbound on Glisan to southbound on Broadway hit the pedestrians.

Also killed was Jenee Hammel, 26, of Gresham, Ore. The other pedestrians were Jamie and Ryan Hammel of Portland, who suffered what police said were minor injuries, and Robert Gittings, an Idaho resident, who suffered a critical injury.

Sale, Gittings and Jenee Hammel were pinned under the bus when police arrived. Police are investigating but said speed did not appear to be a factor. They said the bus driver, Sandi L. Day, was cooperating with investigators.
