TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) — The Connell Grain Growers co-op is building a new $3.5 million plant to clean and prepare wheat seed.
The Tri-City Herald reports the co-op’s new plant northwest of Connell will be dedicated to wheat, allowing an existing plant at Connell to focus on oats and barley.
The new plant will treat seed to control disease and insects and to encourage growth.
Connell Grain Growers operations manager Austin Davis says that in addition to processing seed for Columbia Basin farmers it also cleans seed for international companies, Monsanto and Syngenta.
