What the business does: Jazyrain Letterpress Stationer is a custom design and letterpress printing studio that specializes in creating wedding invitations. The designs are created using the latest computer hardware and software but the final production of Jazyrain’s invitations are completed by hand on an antique printing press. The Chandler & Price printing press, built in the late 1800s, gives printed stationery a look and texture that is not possible using modern printing techniques.
How has the economy affected your business: Cox said that while weddings aren’t canceled because of the economy, budgets have tightened up. Cox has been using the Internet to reach into other markets to stay competitive outside the local area.
Greatest challenge: Cox said his biggest challenge is wearing too many hats. He is exploring available options to outsource business tasks that he doesn’t have to be directly involved with, but he finds that difficult to do.
What’s ahead: Cox would like to relocate Jazyrain to a place that more easily displays and demonstrates the fading art of letterpress printing. He enjoys giving customers a tour and demonstration of his letterpress printing shop when they’re able to pick up their invitations in person. He said he has had some customers that come from as far away as British Columbia.
