TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The Pierce County sheriff’s office says the man who was shot to death by robbers at his Edgewood home may have intervened when his 14-year-old son was being pistol-whipped.

Sgt. Ed Troyer told The News Tribune of Tacoma deputies are looking for three men and a woman who went to the home of 43-year-old James Sanders Wednesday night because an expensive ring had been advertised for sale on the Internet.

Once inside they assaulted the family and tied up the wife. Another son was not injured and called for help.

The robbers fled with several items from the house. Troyer says some of the items were found early Thursday in the bushes off a Highway 167 ramp.
