SEATTLE (AP) — The King County prosecutor won’t seek the death penalty in the case of a man accused of raping two women and fatally stabbing one of them in their Seattle home.
Prosecutor Dan Satterberg said Wednesday that a jury might find a “mitigating factor” in Isaiah Kalebu’s (kuh-LAY’-boo’s) history of mental illness. Satterberg says his office will seek a trial date as soon as possible. Kalebu is charged with aggravated first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, rape and burglary in the attack last July 19. If convicted, he will be sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Teresa Butz was fatally injured while her partner survived.
Prosecutors say the attacker entered the women’s South Park home through an open window while they slept.
