PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — After his insanity plea didn’t convince jurors, an Army veteran has been found guilty of first-degree attempted murder for shooting a Clallam County Sheriff’s deputy in 2009.

The Peninsula Daily News reports that 60-year-old Scott L. Davis was found guilty Friday and will be sentenced in September. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

Authorities say Davis, of Silverdale, Wash., shot and wounded 42-year-old deputy Bill Cortani while the deputy was responding to a trespassing call at a cabin near Neah Bay. Both men were wounded in the shootout.

Davis’ attorney argued the retired Army major suffers from bipolar disorder was not taking his medication at the time of the shooting. Davis showed now emotion when the verdict was read.
