BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials have raised the death toll in a car bombing at an outdoor market southeast of Baghdad to at least 15. That brings the overall number killed in attacks Tuesday in Iraq to 22.

Police and hospital officials say the car bomb in the mainly Shiite city of Kut also wounded 60 people.

The 5:30 p.m. blast came hours after suspected al-Qaida in Iraq militants killed five Iraqi soldiers at a western Baghdad checkpoint, planting the terror group’s black banner before fleeting. It’s the second time in less than a week that al-Qaida’s flag has appeared at an attack site.

An Iraqi soldier and a policeman also were killed in separate attacks.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to release the information.
