VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Vancouver police say 45-year-old Officer Andrew Young suffered a medical emergency and died while on an off-duty mountain biking trip in the Hood River, Ore., area.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said Tuesday the department was notified of the death last Friday. She says no other details of the emergency are being provided at the request of his family.

Young worked for the Honolulu Police Department for nearly seven years before being hired by Vancouver police in February 1999.

A memorial service is planned Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vancouver.
