PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Port Angeles police say they’re seeing a spike in nighttime home burglaries committed by intruders who take advantage of unlocked doors and windows.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith says 52 home burglaries have been reported in the past two months, including three that occurred Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Police say that’s higher than normal.

Smith says many of the crimes occur while the residents sleep.

Sgt. Barb McFall says police suspect the nighttime burglaries are related but don’t know how many burglars are involved.

Police offer one emphatic bit of advice: lock your houses, lock your cars.
