OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A Thurston County mother has entered a modified guilty plea to putting a narcotic pain reliever in her 9-month-old daughter’s formula bottle last year.
The Olympian reports that 20-year-old Aliese Marie Gatlin pleaded guilty Friday, under an Alford plea, to second degree assault of a child and first-degree criminal mistreatment. Under an Alford plea, a defendent does not admit guilt but it counts as a criminal conviction.

The mother is being held in Thurston County jail until she is sentenced next week. She faces up to four years in prison.
