PHOENIX (AP) — Luis Gonzalez has become the first player to have his number retired by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Arguably the most popular player in Arizona’s short history, the player known as “Gonzo” stood at home plate with family and friends as his No. 20 was unveiled above the right-field stands at Chase Field before Saturday’s game against San Diego.

Currently Arizona’s special assistant to the president and CEO, Gonzalez played for six teams during his 19-year career, but left his most indelible mark in the desert.

Gonzalez was a five-time All-Star and had the biggest moment in Diamondbacks’ history, blooping a single off New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series, Arizona’s only championship.
