GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A Cave Junction man who shot at a Josephine County sheriff’s deputy and his dog in June has been sentenced to five years in prison.
Kelly Mason pleaded guilty to charges of attempted assault and being a felon in possession of a gun.
The sheriff’s office said the 35-year-old Mason fled from a car during a traffic stop on June 25 and fired two shots at the deputy and his dog, but missed.
Mason was captured near Kerby after a two-day police stakeout of his campsite on Rough and Ready Creek.
