Vancouver firefighters will bring their special skills — that is, putting out blazes and cooking chili — to Esther Short Park on Saturday to raise money for people in need.
It’s the second annual Fire In the Park event, sponsored by the Vancouver Fire Fighters Union and benefiting Share, the area’s largest nonprofit agency providing services to the hungry and homeless.
“Fire In The Park II” is set for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s free and open to the public, but entry to the beer garden is $5 and the chili cook-off is $1 per tasting cup.
In addition to firefighter fare and demonstrations, there will be fife and drum bands, a children’s event with an obstacle course, face painting, ice cream, games and more.
