Vancouver Clark Parks and Recreation, Vancouver Long Range Planning and Community Choices are seeking 45 volunteers to help count and survey local trail users this September as part of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project.

The third annual trail count will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 7, 8 and 9, and from noon to 2 p.m. on Sept. 11. Information gathered during the count will be used to track trends in usage, opportunities for infrastructure improvements and effectiveness of outreach and education about trails, the city said in a release.

Volunteers will count the number of people using select Clark County trails, bikeways and sidewalks. In addition to counting users, volunteers will invite bicyclists and pedestrians to complete a short survey.

Parks and recreation said people can volunteer for one or more twohour shifts. A training session for volunteers will be held Sept. 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Each trail location will be staffed by two volunteers — one to count and one to survey.

For locations of the counts, or to sign up to volunteer, contact volunteer coordinator Teresa Fernandez at 6191124 or at city parks.volunteercoordinator@ci.vancouver.wa.us.
