PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Members of the Jamestown S’Klallam tribe and a group of designers and environmentalists have a proposal for the old Rayonier pulp mill site at Port Angeles. They want to build a development called “Salish Village” that would be a model of sustainable living while providing commercial, residential, retail and cultural space.

The Peninsula Daily News reports that the concept for the 75 acres owned by Rayonier Properties LLC was proposed by tribal Chairman Ron Allen and a group of environmentalists, planners and residents.

The idea is only conceptual at this stage. Rayonier spokesman Charlie Hood says the company has not discussed the proposal with Allen or others in the community.
