Information gatherers employed by the 2010 Census have been given a new charge: quality assurance.
Census workers are making phone calls and random visits to homes to check the accuracy of information. They also want to know if previous visits involved employees who were “polite and courteous,” said Ruben Delvalle, a spokesman in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Seattle office.
Additionally, field staff will be looking to verify that homes marked as vacant are, in fact, vacant. They carry government-issued ID cards and black Census bags.
The Census provides data for political redistricting and the appropriation of $400 billion in federal money.
