ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man who ran an essay contest used to buy drugs has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for a heroin dealing conviction.

The Daily Astorian reported that 54-year-old Theodore Zennie of Seaside pleaded no contest to charges of delivery of a controlled substance last Friday in Clatsop County Circuit Court.

The newspaper said Zennie is better known outside of Clatsop County for charges that are still under investigation.

Zennie faces multiple counts of aggravated theft for an essay contest offering to give away a beach house. Contestants were asked to pay a $99 fee to write a six-line essay explaining their interest in the house.

Zennie later told the Clatsop County Interagency Narcotics Team the money went to buy drugs and pay bills.
