MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — A brief storm dumped a record amount of rain in the middle of a dry summer in the Rogue Valley of southern Oregon, touching off some flash floods and threatening area orchards with hail.
The National Weather Service recorded 0.53 of an inch of rain Tuesday at the Medford airport, breaking the previous record of 0.44 of an inch, set in 1975.
The Mail Tribune in Medford reported that rain flooded streets and snarled traffic in nearby Central Point and White City.
In Talent and Phoenix, orchards escaped the worst of the hail, but several areas saw 1-inch and larger chunks during Tuesday’s storm.
