SEATTLE (AP) — A Washington State Ferries official says changes to propulsion control software have eliminated unwanted vibrations in a new 64-vehicle ferry.
David Moseley said Thursday that ferry officials worked with ferry builder Todd Pacific Shipyards to refine the operating system to “ensure that the propulsion components work together for optimal performance.”
The software refinements were tested in eight hours of sea trials Wednesday.
Now the crew of the ferry Chetzemoka will need a minimum of six weeks training. The inaugural sailing had been set for Aug. 29 but the vibration forced a postponement. No new date has yet been set for first official trip between Port Townsend and Keystone on Whidbey Island, but it could come in October.
