A man who displayed a gun in his waistband robbed the Walgreens store at 2903 N.E. Andresen Road late Friday afternoon and escaped, police say.
The hold-up was reported about 4:35 p.m. Friday, said Officer Missy Ross with the Vancouver Police Department.
The man walked up to an employee at the front counter and asked her to make change. When the employee opened the cash register, the man pulled up his shirt to show a handgun in his pants and demanded cash.
Given some cash, the man left on foot and escaped, despite the efforts of several officers and a tracking dog, Ross said.
Ross said she was aware of no similar robberies. Unlike this one, robberies of stores with pharmacies these days are more typically for prescription painkillers, and several such robbers have been captured recently.
The robber was described as white, thin, between 50 and 60 years old and about 6 feet 1 inch tall. He had long, shaggy gray hair and wore a black baseball cap, a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.
