WASHINGTON (AP) — Mike Quade (KWAH’-dee) has 37 games to make an impression as interim manager of the Chicago Cubs.

Quade says he considers the rest of the season “an audition” for the permanent job. He began with Monday night’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Quade was promoted from third base coach after the sudden resignation of manager Lou Piniella. Piniella managed his last game Sunday.

The Cubs also promoted former Cubs outfielder Bob Dernier to first base coach. Ivan DeJesus moves from first base coach to third base coach.
