GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — A cat belonging to a homeless man is recovering after firefighters in Grants Pass rescued the animal from a burning car.

The Daily Courier reported the cat, named Sampson, had burns to the abdomen and feet, and suffered smoke inhalation.

Fire crews found the cat after a report of a car burning at an Interstate 5 off ramp last week. Firefighters quickly doused the flames and found the cat trapped under the driver’s seat.

Rescuers then used extrication equipment to remove the seat and provided first aid and oxygen to the cat. Officials at the Lincoln Road Veterinary Clinic in Grants Pass said Sampson is doing well after being treated with antibiotics and pain medication.
