PUYALLUP, Wash. (AP) — A Pierce County sheriff’s officer says a 16-year-old developmentally disabled girl who disappeared while riding her bike near her Puyallup (Pew-AL-up), Wash., home has been found dead.

Detective Ed Troyer tells KOMO-TV that Kimmie Daily’s body was found Monday evening in a ditch 12 blocks from her home. Troyer says an 18-year-old man has been taken into custody.

The girl’s father, Cecil Daily, said he began worrying last Tuesday when his daughter left for a friend’s house on her bike but never arrived.

The family says the teen functioned at the level of a 9-year-old due to a disability.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.
