Chinese state TV says 42 killed in plane crash

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese state television says 42 people died when a passenger jet overshot a runway in northeast China on Tuesday and burst into flames. It says 49 others were rescued and taken to hospital.

The official Xinhua News Agency says the Henan Airlines plane carrying 91 passengers and crew crashed in Heilongjiang province’s Yichun city.

China Central Television quotes Sun Bangnan, deputy director of the Heilonjiang Public Security Department, as saying that 42 bodies had been recovered and that 49 people had been rescued.
