Insitu upgrades infrared camera on unmanned craft

Insitu Inc. on Tuesday announced that its NightEagle unmanned aircraft system has now been integrated into combat operations with upgraded infrared equipment.

An adaptation of Insitu’s -ScanEagle unmanned system, the NightEagle carries a sophisticated infrared camera to capture night-time imagery, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data.

The NightEagle and ScanEagle have flown more than 350,000 hours in military operations for the U.S. Navy and Army. The systems are also used in civil applications, such as to monitor weather systems.

Insitu is an independent subsidiary of Boeing Co. that is headquartered in Bingen and employs 700 people in offices there and in White Salmon, Stevenson, Vancouver, The Dalles, Ore., and Hood River, Ore.
