NEW YORK (AP) — Stock futures are rising modestly but investors are also buying bonds, indicating they are cautious ahead of a key weekly reading on unemployment.

Futures could be getting a lift Thursday from rising markets overseas. European markets are rallying after another strong economic report from Germany.

Even with stock futures rising, traders continue to move money into the bond market, sending interest rates lower.

The Labor Department is expected to report initial claims for unemployment benefits fell slightly after touching a nine-month high a week earlier.

Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 22, or 0.2 percent, at 10,069. S&P 500 futures are up 3, or 0.3 percent, at 1,058, while Nasdaq 100 futures are up 4, or 0.2 percent, at 1,794.
