TRI-CITIES, Wash. (AP) — Workers are starting to clean up what’s believed to be some of the most hazardous waste at the Hanford nuclear reservation.
The Tri-City Herald reports test pits have been dug in 12 trenches that were filled in the 1950s and ’60s in a 6-acre area called the 618-10 Burial Ground.
Washington Closure project manger John Darby says disposal records are incomplete. The site is believed to hold high-level waste. Clean-up is scheduled for next year.
