Tiger tumbles with a triple bogey at Barclays

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — One swing cost Tiger Woods any chance of winning The Barclays. Now he can only hope he gets to keep going in the FedEx Cup playoffs.

Woods hit a shocking 3-wood off the opening tee, straight in the air with a sharp hook that sailed over the trees and off the property at Ridgewood Country Club. It led to a triple bogey, and he never got all of those shots back.

He had to finish birdie-birdie for a 1-over 72 that left him well back in the pack. At one point, Woods was outside the projected top 100 in the FedEx Cup standings, and only the top 100 advance to the Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston next week.

A steady round Sunday should be enough, and Woods said he was at least pleased that he put his opening-hole gaffe behind him.
